✅ The #OPERA gift set contains the following elements:
✔️ A tea cup, with a matching saucer, made of white porcelain, hand-painted, the saucer having a pierced border. It is a Schumann Arzberg, Bavaria brand set, the model being Form Marienbad Ingres Weiss. It was manufactured in the 1960s, during the golden age for such decorative pieces of fine porcelain. The set was decorated with gold, precisely to increase the value of the pieces and add a touch of refinement. This is a classic German porcelain model, renowned for its traditional elegance. The flowers are hand-painted, with brushstrokes easily visible. A distinctive feature of this model is the pierced or openwork pattern on the edge of the saucer, which gives a delicate, aristocratic look. In the production process, the porcelain is carefully perforated before being fired in the kiln. This technique requires extreme precision, as raw porcelain is very fragile. The edges of the pierced portion are defined with thin 24K gold stripes, which accentuate the complexity of the cut and the value of the piece. This type of finish is specific to luxury porcelain from the mid-20th century (1960s). Pierced pieces are more expensive and more sought after by collectors than those with solid edges, due to the complexity of the work involved.

The association of this set with the Schumann Arzberg manufacturer is based on several historical and market evidences, which attest to the connection between the "Form Marienbad" brand and the renowned porcelain factory in Bavaria – Schumann Arzberg. Many pieces bearing the exact same marking "Form Marienbad Ingres Weiss" are listed in specialized catalogs and on auction platforms as being produced by Schumann. This company was one of the main German manufacturers specializing in reticulated (pierced) technique during the 1950s-1970s. The "Marienbad" model was a specific production line of theirs, characterized by this type of scalloped rim. In the German porcelain industry, "Form" refers to the physical shape of the object, and "Ingres Weiss" to the type of decor/finish. Schumann frequently used names of spa resorts (such as Marienbad or Dresden) for its classic forms.
* The history of the Schumann factory begins in 1876, as a small pottery workshop in Arzberg. The factory developed as a family business, successively taken over by the founder's sons. In the 1920s, it exported porcelain to the USA, until the year of the 1929 global crisis, when all efforts to export became futile.
* The Carl Schumann Porzellanfabrik company was one of the few German companies authorized to produce Mickey Mouse figurines under license from Disney. It promoted these porcelain products, presenting Mickey Mouse performing a traditional Bavarian dance. Most of these so-called "non-Aryan" products were destroyed during the Third Reich, between 1934 and 1945, and are therefore among the rarest pre-war Disneyana collectibles in Europe.
* After the Second World War, in the years 1953-1954, the company reached its maximum number of almost 1200 employees, but at the same time, exports to the USA began to stagnate, as it had become a market flooded with much cheaper Japanese porcelain. Later, the reunification of Germany brought other major problems for porcelain manufacturers, as state-owned factories in former East Germany struggled to enter the German market and became difficult competition to counteract. In 1994, the Schumann factory closed.
✅ Therefore, whoever owns this piece will hold in their hands a small part of Bavarian porcelain history.
